Managers CSCS black card.
Most of our inquiries are in some way or another connected to the CSCS black or gold supervisor’s cards. When the CSCS profiling scheme was running, and as we majored in providing a mentoring / reviewing service, this was understandable, but what we are experiencing is that like it or not, the CSCS scheme today is still seen as the passport to employment and our candidates want to know how to achieve their cards.
We explain that most candidates are now opting for the assessed NVQ route and we explain what that involves which includes completing a knowledge questionnaire and providing site evidence to support the answers given. We also explain that we provide the guidance and support necessary to complete the NVQ and that each candidate will be assigned their own assessor who’s task it is to give the support and guidance necessary and then once given, to assess the candidates evidence and to award the NVQ without the necessity of the candidate taking time out from work.
We then raise the bar and explain that candidates undertaking NVQ’s level 6 and 7 are able to receive professional recognition with the CIOB through their professional review system. This system majors on completing a profiling questionnaire in order to gain MCIOB chartered status. Assisting candidates with profiling applications is one of our core skills and to that end we have created an on line mentoring programme.
At the other end of the management spectrum, we have created a supervisors GAP course, which will be on line shortly. This is designed to assist a trades person entering into supervisory duties. We also currently have an on line management GAP H&S course, designed to assist supervisors and foreman entering into management duties, who are on their journey to gaining a CSCS black card.
We see gaining the CSCS black managers card as a central spoke in the management career development of our candidates but encourage our candidates and working partners, such as employment agencies, to raise their expectations and promotional aims by promoting the gaining of MCIOB status for all eligible professionals.
We recognise that gaining an MCIOB status is excellent kudos, an achievement in of itself and a status that opens doors, increases the possibility of a higher salary and promotes the betterment and professional recognition of our construction managers, construction companies and our industry.
