The CIOB advocate having a mentor when completing their Professional Review Process. This is for good reason. The Professional Review process is for those operating at a professional level. All persons doing their work correctly are professionals but here the term ‘Professional’ means something else.
In the construction working environment, levels of employment range from unskilled to professional. In between there are skilled, advanced craft, specialists, supervisor and management levels of employment. To that end, the CIOB have created a full membership route for those managers operating at a professional level.
A prerequisite for applying is having a managerial NVQ or a higher qualification. The NVQ prerequisite level has been set at level 6 and 7. Those wishing to apply with a level 6 management NVQ will need to complete a 16 section application and those with a level seven, a 4 part application.
Mentoring for CIOB Professional Review Applicants
The reason a mentor is needed is because the application has been set at degree level. This simply means that applicants will need to be able to compose succinct responses, communicating correct information in a report style with a limited word count.
