Having worked with many candidates of the past 10 years seeking CSCS Managers cards via the NVQ Assessment Route and the CSCS Profiled Route, the feed back from our candidates is that the CSCS card is an absolute necessity as it is currently seen as the passport to employment. However, with the shifting decision on the CSCS Card renewal process fo those not holding a suitable qualification, many of our candidates are of the impression that to it is becoming unwise to leave their job and employment security in the sole hands of the CSCS. They have, ahead of their expiry dates, embarked upon construction management NVQ’s, which on completion has the added benifit of offering the opportunity to gain full MCIOB status through the CIOB professional review programme, thus placing their future employment prospects firmly in their own hands where they belong!
Achieving MCIOB status is to be applauded. MCIOB is the best way of evidencing a construction manager’s historical commitment and professional expertise in and to the construction industry. It is also to be noted that in our opinion, CIOB members at MCIOB level often command the best management salaries and positions. All construction managers holding a management NVQ at level 6 or 7 may apply, as may other professionals in the industry who hold a senior qualification and the relevant working history.
